The art of scenography is a vital field within art history. This course combines new ways of understanding scenography with historical examples. The course provides an awareness of the politically charged scenographic interaction between bodies and spaces, within the performing arts and in the expanded field. The scenic event where space, light, sound, costume, smell, bodies and ideas interact is discussed from three perspectives: The creative perspective focuses on the creation of scenic design. The experience perspective examines how sensory and communicative properties affect the encounter with the scenic event. The significance perspective offers an expanded understanding of scenography's capacity to create meaning. The field of study has high social relevance and provides qualified competence to work in a variety of art and culture professions.
