The World Religion Paradigm is a long-lived and conventional starting point for discussing the world’s religions. Usually, the term refers to five religions, the so-called big five: Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The course addresses the emergence of the World Religions Paradigm and its consequences for the study of religion. Emphasis is put on contemporary criticism of the concept and introduces new approaches that aim at overcoming the problems aligned with established ways of conceptualizing and studying religions.
