Truffles have been surrounded by myths throughout history, but the science of this fungal life form is even more intriguing. This course will give you a background to the evolution, species richness, chemistry and function of truffles, explaining their use, growth and cultivation. We visit a natural truffle habitat and a truffle orchard on the island of Gotland and learn to identify some of the economically important species. **Outline of the course** **Mandatory:**<br> Friday 4 September 2026 at 15:00-16:00: Course introduction (distance-based by Zoom).<br> Thursday - Sunday 17-20 September 2026: Teaching at Campus Gotland, Visby.<br> Thursday - Sunday 5-8 November 2026: Teaching at Campus Gotland, Visby.<br> Sunday 22 November at 17-17.30: Course conclusion and summary via Zoom. Additional weeks are intended for individual studies part-time and can be done elsewhere.
