This course examines landmark episodes in literary history in light of conflicts over political and cultural identity in Britain and Ireland. Addressing a range of controversies centred on writers and texts, you will explore the dynamics at work in factors as diverse as regional movements, propaganda, canon formation, moral panics, censorship, and the evolution of author cults. This course provides you with key theoretical concepts and a critical historical frame for understanding current debates involving literature in English on the islands forming the North Atlantic archipelago.

Entry requirements

120 credits. English A1, B1 and C1, or 90 credits in a language subject or in literary studies.
