Literature has been shaped by the transnational movements of cultures, texts and peoples, but also by national and linguistic borders. This course explores how literature in English has been moulded by these transnational flows and boundaries. It ranges across literary periods and addresses such topics as migration and mobility, cultural contact zones and transculturation, multiculturalism and cosmopolitan citizenship, as well as diaspora and statelessness. Throughout, it introduces you to transnational and world literary approaches to literary study.
