Changing water flows, eutrophication and other pollution, introduction of alien species and large-scale climate change are the results of human use of water. Are you interested in understanding how lakes, rivers and other ecosystems function – and how they are affected by human activities? This international Master's specialisation offers a holistic perspective on nature, focusing on the physical, chemical and biological processes in aquatic environments. You will gain both theoretical and practical knowledge, from microorganisms to fish, learning to analyse ecosystem dynamics. Teaching is closely linked to current research and conducted by active scientists in limnology and ecosystem ecology. The programme is flexible – you choose courses based on your interests and career goals. The second year is mainly devoted to a degree project, which can be carried out within the university's research groups or in collaboration with external partners. In this specialisation of the programme, you will: - learn how ecosystems work, and in which way they are affected by human perturbations - get a broad and holistic perspective on nature, by crossing disciplinary boundaries such as biology, chemistry, physics, and hydrology - gain skills to analyse and judge the status of ecosystems and natural resources, by using practical exercises. This programme is ideal if you aim to work in water and nature conservation, environmental monitoring or research. Our graduates have pursued careers in governmental agencies, consultancy firms and academia. The language of instruction is English.
*Academic requirements* A Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, from an internationally recognised university. Also required is: - 60 weeks of full-time studies (90 credits) in biology; or - 40 weeks of full-time studies (60 credits) in biology plus 20 weeks of full-time studies (30 credits) in chemistry and/or earth sciences. *Language requirements* Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6. This requirement can be met either by achieving the required score on an internationally recognised test, or by previous upper secondary or university studies in some countries.
Each offering has its own dates and conditions. Closed offerings are retained as history and do not mean that a new application is open.
