The course focuses on principles for advanced organic synthesis with an emphasis on retrosynthetic analysis and planning efficient synthetic routes for complex molecules. You will learn to identify key transformations, to plan for applying strategies involving protecting groups, and evaluate classical and modern methods for the synthesis of natural products. The course also develops your ability to orally present and clearly illustrate synthetic strategies using reaction mechanisms.

Entry requirements

120 credits with 60 credits in Chemistry, including 30 credits in Organic Chemistry of which 15 credits at Master's level. Organic Chemistry III or Organic Reaction Principles. Participation in Coordination and Organometallic Chemistry which can be taken in parallel. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.
