The course addresses the complex interplay between place and identity and its significance for everyday experiences. Drawing on current research in human geography, it analyzes how spatial and social contexts shape social relations, cultural practices, and individual actions and interpretative frameworks. An in-depth understanding of the relationship between place and identity is essential for analyzing social and cultural dynamics in different geographical contexts. The course is particularly relevant for students interested in urban and rural studies, local cultures and their spatial expressions, as well as for professional fields concerned with community development, social inclusion, and planning processes.
