East European countries pioneered a number of unconventional media practices that have been transplanted to the West or influenced it in a variety of ways, from troll farms, and subversive uses of mobile communication in Ukrainian and Belarusian protests to memetic warfare during the Russo-Ukrainian war. This interdisciplinary course combines an introduction to major contemporary media theories with an analysis of novel media phenomena in the post-Soviet space. You will follow different paths taken by media systems in countries such as the Baltic states, Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, and others.
A Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, from an internationally recognised university, including at least 90 credits in the social sciences or humanities. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.
Each offering has its own dates and conditions. Closed offerings are retained as history and do not mean that a new application is open.
