A Circular Building Sector - Introduction

<p>The construction and property sector accounts for a significant part of society's environmental and climate impact. Looking at the industry from a European perspective, the construction sector accounts for half of all raw materials extracted, half of total energy use, a third of all water use and a third of all waste generated. The Swedish construction industry makes up roughly 20% of Sweden's total climate emissions. A transition to a circular economy in the construction sector is important for Sweden to reach set environmental and climate goals. In order for the transition to be possible, many different professional roles in the construction and property sector will need to supplement their skills and new knowledge is needed both to solve the daily tasks and to be able to develop and change the sector. At LTH there is both a Profile area and a Thematic collaboration initiative that interdisciplinary addresses questions that link to a circular construction industry. The course is based on this accumulated competence to deal with relevant and pressing aspects of a circular construction industry.</p>
