Ancient Near East: Religion

Expanding on previous studies on Near Eastern religion, the course deals with Sumerian, Babylonian and Assyrian religions, with perspectives on neighbouring cultures. Gods and their relationship to the world, places, beliefs and patterns of behaviour that were formed around them are examined and followed over time. Texts and images illuminate contemporary language and symbolism, contrasted with more recent reflections of phenomena that can be traced back to ancient Mesopotamia. The course is also included as a module in Assyriology B and cannot be taken together with it. **Outline for distance course:** Learning activities and examination in the distance learning courses are online. Examination takes place through submissions during the course and a final exam. The course is given in the university's learning platform Studium and in Zoom. Access to a computer with an internet connection, a webcam and a headset, is required to follow the course.
