Classics of Western Thought

<p>In this course, you will read a selection of significant theoretical works from the Western tradition. Studying these texts will give you an insight into the intellectual development of the Western world from classical antiquity to the present day. </p><p>Reading these classic texts will provide insight into key ideas concerning philosophy, religion, politics and science. The concept of 'classics' is examined from critical and historical perspectives. Throughout the course, you will discuss and evaluate various approaches to reading theoretical texts, such as close reading, historical contextualisation, and critical interpretation. The ideas in these works have had an enormous influence on our society, and many of them remain relevant to the present day. Reading them is not only a pleasure, but also allows us to understand where these ideas originated and the problems they were intended to solve.</p>
