Conflicts over Truth: Conspiracy Theory and Disinformation Studies from a Humanities Perspective

<p>We live in an era of widespread conspiracy theories and disinformation. What can the humanities contribute to the analysis of this phenomenon?</p><p>This course deals with contemporary and historical conflicts over truth within broader discussions about knowledge, expertise, doubt, trust, power, and modernity. Throughout the course, you will examine how conspiracy theories, rumours and gossip influence politics, health, religion and the economy. The course addresses both universal and culturally specific characteristics of conspiracy theories and disinformation. You will become aware of how conflicts affect human relations at the international, local and individual level - even at the family level. The course covers examples from Europe, Africa, the Americas and Asia. </p><p>Overall, the course will offer you the opportunity to consider broader questions: What do conflicts over truth reveal about people's fears, disappointments, and concerns about the current world?
