Creative Writing in English: Writing Beyond Borders

Do you want to push your writing into new territory and explore new-thinking ways of telling stories? Creative Writing in English: Writing Beyond Borders is a hands on, exploratory course designed for students eager to experiment with literary form, voice and technique. This course introduces you to innovative literary movements that have challenged the conventions storytelling and invites you to find ways of rethinking your writing practices. You will study a range of experimental methods—such as hybrid genres, visual and digital narratives, collaborative authorship, and constraint based writing—and learn how these approaches can fuel your own creative practice. Through guided tasks, individual supervision, and peer to peer critique, you will craft original creative texts and revise them through multiple stages. Along the way, you will reflect critically on your writing process, examining how unconventional techniques affect meaning and reader experience. The course emphasizes both creative freedom and reflective awareness, helping you develop a distinctive literary voice in English while deepening your understanding of contemporary writing’s possibilities. Whether you are curious about avant garde traditions, eager to experiment with form, or looking to expand your creative repertoire, this course offers a supportive environment for exploration and growth. Writing sample Please note that in order to be eligible for the course, you will need to both apply via Antagning.se (or Universityadmissions.se) and send in a sample of your writing. The selection of applicants for this course will be based on the quality of the submitted writing samples. The sample piece should be a fictive text within any genre, written in English, and no longer than 10 pages. Format: Times New Roman 12, 1.5 line spacing, Word or PDF.
