Degrowth and Socio-ecological Transformation

<p>How can we create more ecologically sustainable and socially just societies? In this course, you will explore degrowth, an idea that challenges today’s economic systems and opens the door to socio-ecological transformation.</p><p>Degrowth is a research field that questions the assumption of continuous economic growth and explores alternative ways of organising our societies. </p><p>This course introduces key theories and debates on how our social systems can be transformed across different areas of production and consumption - including work, care, welfare, energy, technology and materials. It also addresses questions of governance, policies and strategies that can foster this transformation.</p><p>You will gain insights into why degrowth matters in times of climate crisis and exacerbating social problems. By analysing different perspectives, you will learn to critically examine today’s economy and explore alternatives. </p><p>The course can be taken as a stand-alone option and is ideal for anyone interested in sustainability, alternative economies and societal transformation.<br/>Language of instruction: English.</p>
