Dermatochemistry

The skin is the body´s largest organ, and is in constant contact with our surroundings. The skin is far from a simple barrier. Instead, it is an extremely complex organ with many vital functions. The course aims to increase the understanding of the skin and the chemistry that happens in the skin when exposed to medicines, chemicals and light. There is a complex interplay of chemical reactivity, the skin´s barrier function and immunological activity. We addressed, including transdermal drug administration methods for the study of skin exposure, as well as mechanisms for contact allergy. Instruction consists of lectures, seminars, and projects. Examination takes place in seminars, presentation of projects and final exam. Active participation in the course of all operations is crucial to be able to assimilate the course content.
