Översikt
The course is divided into two components. The first part covers theories of economic growth and the second part focuses on empirical analysis of economic growth. The theoretical component addresses the importance of both physical capital formation and human capital in the form of education and research. This component also includes a discussion on poverty as an obstacle to development through weak incentives to pursue education, as well as negative effects of inadequate healthcare. The role of the state in improving the functioning of the economy is discussed, along with the significance of international trade and investment for knowledge transfer between countries as a way to increase the growth potential of the economy. The second component which is focused on empirical analysis can be carried out as a group project or completed individually.
