Economics: Econometrics

<p>In order to understand what goes on in the economy and to be able to test theories, we need empirical methods to analyse economic data. In this course, you will learn to analyse economic data, explore relationships, test ideas, and draw conclusions from different types of data. </p><p>This course focuses on understanding and applying linear regression models to analyse economic data. You will start by revisiting key concepts from probability and statistics to ensure a solid foundation. The core of the course is learning how to model relationships between variables, test ideas using data, and interpret results. You will study models for single-variable and multi-variable settings including how to handle qualitative data. </p><p>The course covers different types of data: cross-sectional, time-series, and panel data, and shows how to account for specific features in each case. Throughout, you will work with real datasets to practice analysis, evaluate model assumptions, and learn strategies for when assumptions are not fully met. We use basic statistics and probability to understand how models are estimated and evaluated. </p><p>By the end of the course, you will be able to apply the empirical tools you encounter in the course to answer economic questions and to communicate your findings effectively.</p>
