Education profession in teaching, learning and education leadership

The Education profession programme in teaching, learning and education leadership is a programme given at a 25 per cent study rate intended for preschool teachers, teachers and school leaders in all types of school. The programme offers three different types of entry and is intended for: Entry I: Preschool teachers or teachers wishing to enhance their professional competence Entry II: Preschool teachers or teachers who are considering training as a principal Entry III: Principal, who has completed the national school leadership training programme and who wishes to enhance your professional competence The aim of the programme is to give you the opportunity to enhance the disciplinary foundation for pedagogical work in preschool and school and to improve your theoretical understanding and analytical skills. You will through the programme deepen and broaden your competence, enhance your teaching skills and your leadership skills while specializing in your specific field of practice. The course contents reflect a sustainability perspective in which professional ethical issues are key elements discussed. The programme qualifies for third-cycle studies. Some of the components dealt with in entry I concern how teachers/preschool teachers in a professional manner may support and guide newly qualified colleagues, lead the learning of children and pupils, and how to document, assess and grade. Entry II addresses areas such as sustainable teacher leadership, how to lead systematic quality management and collegial learning. Main themes in both entries are the digitalization of society, documentation and assessment. The final 30 credits in the professional education and training programme discuss how to ask questions, how to design a scientific study and how to develop methods for collection of data and analysis. The final course in the programme consists of an independent project in which the course participant shall define a research issue on the basis of an educational practice, carry out some kind of study, and document, present and discuss this based on theories and previous research. The course participants in entry III are given credit for 30 credits obtained within the national school leadership training programme. For this group, only the final 30 credits are required in order to obtain a Master's Degree (60 credits). The programme is given at the second-cycle level and as a distance learning course with a few meetings held on campus (see the respective course syllabus). The language of instruction is Swedish, but some elements may also be held in English.
