Electrical Power Engineering

Electrical power engineering includes the methods and techniques for designing an electrical power system to generate, transmit and use electrical energy. The course explains the meaning of basic concepts such as single-phase and three-phase systems, power triangle, and phase compensation. The course describes important components for electrical power systems and power grids: for example, different types of transformers and three-phase loads in star or delta configuration. The course covers transmission lines as well as the basics of power electronics: that is to say, the conversion of electrical energy with electronic components. An important part of the practical experience in the course is the lab time both in the electrical power laboratory and in the use of simulation tools. Special focus is placed on the basics of measurement and simulation technology. Included in this part of the course is the importance of electrical safety for both humans and the technical system in the laboratory.
