The course comprises four modules. Module 1 English Grammar, 7.5 cr.<br> The module provides a systematic survey of basic grammatical concepts and English syntax and morphology, including practical exercises and comparisons with Swedish. Stylistic and regional variations are discussed, but the main focus is Standard English. Module 2 English Linguistics I: Concepts and Theories, 7.5 cr.<br> The module introduces basic concepts and theories in central English linguistic research fields. Students form an understanding of the structure and use of the English language and compare with Swedish and other languages. Linguistic problems are discussed and concepts and theories are applied in analysis exercises. Students are also introduced to linguistics as a research field, including its academic discourse. Module 3 English Language Proficiency, 7.5 cr.<br> This module focuses on students' knowledge of and proficiency in spoken and written Standard English. Theoretical content is alternated with practical exercises which help students improve their pronunciation and written production in English. The course includes general writing skills but has a special emphasis on formal writing. Writing skills are developed through process writing in small groups. Module 4 Introduction to English Literature, 7.5 cr.<br> The module focuses on the analysis of different types and genres of literature in English and introduces basic literary theory and concepts in literary studies. Students develop analytical and critical skills through oral and written assignments involving the application of relevant literary concepts.
