The course comprises four modules. **Module 1 - Academic Writing in English, 7.5 ECTS cr.** <br> The course is focused on academic writing in English in different academic contexts. Throughout the course, students produce academic text types such as literature reviews, summaries, and article abstracts. In all kinds of text production, students practise using a given referencing system correctly for in-text citations and reference lists. Students also read research on scholarly writing and use it as material for discussion and reflection concerning academic text production. Active reading skills are emphasised and practised, with the purpose to identify the different parts of the academic text and the way in which they are interrelated. <br> Instruction is in the form of lectures and seminars. Students read and examine each other's work in preparation for seminars. Throughout the course, students produce a number of academic texts of different lengths and submit them in a portfolio. The portfolio and an oral presentation constitute the basis for assessment. **Module 2 - English Linguistics II: Language Development and Language Learning, 7.5 ECTS cr.** <br> The course is focused on language development and language learning. This module introduces concepts and theories that describe first and second language learning, compares processes that underpin language development and language learning, and considers related issues in bilingualism studies. Students also acquire in-depth theoretical knowledge of the many different forms of linguistics. A central aspect of the course is that students are given the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge about language learning on practical field exercises. The course includes analyses of classroom teaching with a focus on language development. **Module 3 - English Literature Before 1800, 7.5 ECTS cr.** <br> The module is structured as a historical overview of English fiction before 1800, with a focus on British and American literature. Students read selected works of fiction which are related to social and historical contexts through parallel study of literary, cultural, and political developments, especially in Great Britain and the US. **Module 4 - English Literature after 1800, 7.5 ECTS cr**. <br> The module is structured as a historical overview of English fiction after 1800, with a focus on British and American literature.
