English: Corpus Linguistics - Tools, Methods and Analysis

<p><span style="color:#333333">This course is an introduction to the rapidly growing field of Corpus Linguistics. Corpus Linguistics (CL) is a method to retrieve data to study natural occurring language in different contexts. Retrieval of data is usually carried out with the aid of different types of software. Corpora are machine-readable collections of texts compiled to explore how language is used in real communication, written or spoken. The course combines theoretical insights relating to relevant research questions, criteria and methods for evaluating, building and annotating corpora with exploratory hands-on language lab sessions using tools that have been developed for searching and organizing the data as well as well methods for corpus building and annotation. The main aim is to familiarize the student with how to master the use of language corpora for different purposes in linguistic research.</span></p>
