English: Drama in Practice: Shakespeare on Stage

<p>Explore Shakespeare through live theatre! In this course, you won’t just read a play - you’ll rehearse it, bring it to life and perform it on stage in front of an audience. You’ll gain both practical experience and historical knowledge of Renaissance theatre and Shakespeare’s plays.</p><p>The course is based on active participation in both rehearsals and lectures. A large part of the course is devoted to rehearsals of the chosen play, and you are expected to be fully engaged throughout the process - from the first read-through to the final performance. Towards the end of the course, rehearsal work intensifies, which means that the period leading up to the premiere can be time-consuming. </p><p>You will work on analysing the play both independently and together with other students. By watching and discussing film adaptations of the play, you will gain insight into how different directors and actors have interpreted the text. This will strengthen your ability to reflect on various staging choices and how they affect the audience’s experience. </p><p>The work on the course is practical, creative and collaborative. Together, you will develop your understanding of the possibilities and challenges of drama. </p><p>The course is assessed partly through seven short reflective essays, which address topics and questions from lectures and rehearsals, and partly through the performance of the play, on stage and in front of an audience. </p><p><br/></p>
