Entanglements and Critical Perspectives on AI and Society

<p>How do AI and social robots shape our relationships and societies? In this course, you will explore how humans and intelligent technologies interact - and what ethical, social, and political questions arise when AI is used in different social contexts.</p><p>This interdisciplinary course offers perspectives on AI and society from the humanities and the social sciences. You will gain a broad understanding of how humans and robots interact in both private and public settings, and how these relationships are perceived, regulated, and evaluated from a human-centred perspective. </p><p>The course addresses issues of power, norms, and social structures in relation to smart technologies and artificial agents. A central aim of the course is to help you identify the challenges and ethical dilemmas that arise when AI and social robots are used in communication and interaction with people. You will discuss how AI and robots can shape - and sometimes reproduce - roles, identities, and inequalities in encounters with humans. </p><p>The course includes a brief introduction to social robotics and human-robot interaction (HRI), as well as an overview of established theories and methods for studying these interactions. You will also engage more deeply with critical and ethical perspectives on AI and technoscience, such as robot ethics, gender and queer theoretical perspectives on AI, and data feminism. </p><p>You will also develop a critical understanding of how digital and embodied technologies - such as social robots and AI-driven systems - affect people and relationships, from ethical, political and social perspectives.</p>
