Environmental Science: Environmental and Climate Strategic Processes and Tools

<p>The overall aim of the course is for students to acquire knowledge and skills to understand the role of environmental and climate strategic processes and tools in implementation, decision-making, and execution. Students will become familiar with and be able to generally explain the function of established strategic processes and tools in the environmental and climate domain. They will also be able to critically reflect on the choice of processes and tools, as well as the consequences of their use in various situations. Students should also understand the role of the environmental/climate strategist in relation to societal development and the goal conflicts that may arise, such as between production goals and environmental objectives.</p><p>The course introduces and is based on a generic structure for strategic environmental and climate work, and its connecting processes and tools used across sectors and industries and at different levels (local, regional, national, and global) are connected.</p> <p>The course consists of three modules:</p> <p>The first module focuses on understanding established processes and tools used in strategic environmental and climate work to analyse, develop, implement, and follow</p> <p>up on efforts. Students will gain an overview of several established processes and tools and deepen their knowledge of selected ones. The module concludes with readings and discussions of literature that problematise the use of such processes and/or tools.</p> <p>The second module deepens students' understanding of selected processes and tools in strategic environmental and climate work, such as participatory methods, life cycle assessment (LCA), and risk analysis/assessment.</p> <p>The third module invites students to reflect on the role of the environmental/climate strategist in relation to goal conflicts that may arise—e.g., between production targets and environmental objectives—both at societal and organisational levels.</p> <p>Students will reflect on these goal conflicts and possible strategies for handling them, preparing them for future professional practice.</p>
