Environmental Science: Research Methodology in Environmental Science

<p>In this course, you get to practice central methods in environmental science. You also gain an in-depth knowledge of what distinguishes environmental science from other natural science subjects. You will learn about project management and will get to practice developing a research project with a special focus on formulating a research aim and questions in relation to a chosen method.</p><p>The overall goal of the course is for the student to acquire knowledge and skills to conduct research in environmental science.</p> <p>The course provides a broad understanding of the development of research from a theory of science perspecitve. It deals with qualitative and quantitative methods used in environmental science research and reflects on the findings and conclusions that can be drawn from each research methodology.</p> <p>The course consists of two sub-courses one theoretical and one applied. The theoretical sub-course focus on theory of science, research ethics, differences and similarities between qualitative and quantitative research and provide an overview of different methods and analytical tools commonly used in environmental science. The applied sub-course provide the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge in the development of a research plan, test and development of relevant methods including data management and analysis. This practical work also includes project management as well as scientific and popular science writing and communication.</p>
