Existential Sustainability: Expanding the Discourse on Sustainability

<p>The course broadens the understanding of sustainability by introducing existential perspectives. The focus is on how relationships to place, time and narrative influence how people live and the conditions for sustainable ways of living in the built environment. </p><p>The course explores sustainability by complementing ecological, social and economic perspectives with an existential perspective.</p><p>Teaching is based on theories from religious studies, sociology, architecture and the built environment. You encounter different understandings of the concept of existential sustainability and how it can be understood and critically discussed in relation to sustainable development.</p><p>A central component of the course is an urban development project used as a case study. Here, you analyse existential perspectives in relation to the built environment.</p><p>The focus is on how relationships to place, time, identity and narrative, and the ways people create meaning, influence how we live and shape the conditions for long-term sustainable ways of living.</p><p>The course is interdisciplinary and open to students from all faculties.</p>
