GIS: Internet GIS

<p>With this course, you study how GIS can be used in a client-server environment with internet based communication. The course also deals with cartographic rules for monitors, and the most important techniques for transmitting geographical data via the Internet.</p><p>The lectures describe the most common techniques and standards for distribution of geographical data via the Internet. The exercises concentrate on methods for creating map services on the Internet by use of web GIS software. Some internet programming will be required. The course contains a major individual project where the students set up their own map service on the Internet.</p> <h3>Course design</h3> <p>The teaching consists of lectures, laboratory work, seminars and independent in-depth assignments. Participation in laboratory work, seminars and project work and thus integrated other teaching is mandatory. The course is distributed online and given via the internet. It is flexibly designed, which enables the student to complete the course at full or half speed.</p>
