Intimate Partner Violence

Intimate partner violence in its various forms and seriousness is a major societal problem. The effects of intimate partner violence are detrimental not only to the victim but also to society as a whole, with consequences such as physical and psychological suffering and considerable economic costs. This course deals with the central concepts and theories within this field, as well as, giving an orientation into current national and international research on different forms of violence within different intimate relations. In addition, this course applies a gender perspective on both perpetrator and the exposed individual of intimate partner violence. One part of the course will also discuss and problematize strategies in society to combat and prevent violence against women. The course also involves discussions about the societal challenges of risk management and protective actions in rural areas in relation to intimate partner violence.
