<p>How are religion and politics connected - in history and in contemporary societies? In this course, you will explore how Islam is discussed, interpreted, and mobilized in political contexts.</p><p>This is a 7.5-credit course in Islamic Studies. You will study the relationship between Islam and politics, and how the interaction between religion and society has changed over time.</p><p>The course provides an overview of the political significance of Islam, both historically and in the contemporary world. You will also learn how issues related to Islam are debated and discussed in different societies, both globally and in Europe, with particular attention to Sweden.</p><p>The course is offered as a standalone course and may be included in a degree in History of Religions or in Religious Studies and Theology. The instruction is conducted in both Swedish and English.</p>

General entry requirements and successful completion of at least 15 credits within Religious Studies: Level 1 (REVA10/ÄRED11), of which at least 5 credits must consist of Module 4 Jewish and Islamic traditions. Alternatively, general eligibility and successful completion of at least 15 credits within Islamic Studies: Level 1 (ISLA11), or the equivalent.
