Islamic Studies: Level 2

<p>Would you like to understand how Islam has been shaped by ideas, texts, and social change - from its historical development to contemporary debates? This course provides you with the tools to analyse both classical texts and current issues in a nuanced and critical way.</p><p>This is a 30-credit intermediate-level course in Islamic Studies. You will deepen your understanding of Islam as a religious tradition, an intellectual tradition, and a social phenomenon. The course explores how religious, philosophical, and political ideas are interconnected and how they develop over time.</p><p>You will study key texts and schools of thought, learning to place them within their historical and social contexts. The course also examines how Islam is discussed in academic research and contemporary society and how the concept of “Islam” can carry different meanings in different contexts.</p><p>The course is offered as a standalone course and may be included in a degree in History of Religions or in Religious Studies and Theology. The instruction is conducted in both Swedish and English.</p>
