Main instrument IV, Western classical music

Students study, interpret, and perform chosen and assigned repertoire from different periods of Western classical music. They also discuss and apply repertoire, style, musical analysis, and interpretation as well as provide descriptions of different phases in the rehearsing and performing process. The course includes presentations and applications of complex technical exercises and training in sight-reading of complex musical notations. The course includes repertoire requiring highly developed technical skills on the main instrument and familiarity with style and performance practice. Parts of the repertoire are performed in in-house concerts. Students also discuss their own learning process and the progress made in rehearsing and performing the chosen repertoire, and reflect critically upon different approaches to musical performance. Instruction is in the form of individual tutorials, seminars, and master classes.
