<p>Do you enjoy working in the borderland between biology, biomedicine and chemistry? This Master’s programme allows you to design your own degree in molecular biology based on a wealth of courses in everything from microbiology, molecular genetics and biochemistry to sensory biology, neurobiology and immunology.</p><p>The General Master’s Programme in Molecular Biology is aimed at students who are interested in creating their own unique education in molecular biology. You will design your personal study route together with our study advisor. You can choose among some 30 courses and compose a degree based on your interests and previous knowledge.</p> <p>Teaching takes place on modern premises and in laboratories with advanced equipment. During your studies you will obtain both knowledge in theoretical analysis and practical skills in our laboratory facilities. Regardless of which subjects you base your knowledge profile upon, you will receive in-depth experience in experimental design and analysing results. You will practice both oral and written presentations and obtain ample experience in working in groups.</p> <p>The Master’s programme has a high proportion of scheduled lessons, and the interaction with teaching staff and course assistants is relaxed. The programme is conducted in an international environment and has strong ties with research. All of the teaching staff are researchers, and as a result the teaching is continuously adapted based on current research. The Department of Biology has several world-leading research teams and conducts both basic research and applied research. The language of instruction is English.</p> <h3>Programme structure</h3> <p>During the first semester you will begin with a course on neurobiology, microbiology or molecular genetics in eukaryotes. Thereafter you will take courses on immunology, molecular microbiology or sensory biology, for example. During the second semester you can take courses on cellular and molecular neurobiology, infection biology and/or antibiotics or microscopy, among others. You may freely choose from a list of courses in molecular biology, biochemistry and biomedicine.</p> <p>During the second year you will continue to build your expertise based on your own preferences. The degree project is worth 30, 45 or 60 credits and is conducted in a research team or at a company. If you decide to do a degree project worth less than the maximum number of credits, you can do a second project or take additional theoretical courses. You can also do an internship, which can provide valuable professional contacts during the programme. Most of our students do their degree project at the Faculty of Medicine, where in some cases you can also take biomedicine courses within the framework of this Master’s programme.</p> <h3>Career prospects</h3> <p>After graduation, you can work in several different areas in industry, academia and the public sector. Depending on your chosen educational profile, you could work in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical or food industry. You could also work in a research laboratory at a higher education institution.
