Master's Programme in Global Studies

The Master’s Programme provides the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of how globalization shape lives, environments, and possibilities for action and imagination. You will explore global issues and gain a critical understanding of the main challenges facing global society today, and contribute to finding ways forward. With a focus on current research and the possibility of practising your skills and knowledge in an internship, you will graduate with the ability to work for a more equal, sustainable, and inclusive society. ### About We experience globalization every day by enjoying the benefits of immediate information and communication with friends and family around the world, or through international travel and education. We have access to foods and cultural products produced far from our homes as well as new and inexpensive global services taking form in the sharing economy. Yet globalization is more complex than easy access. Globalization has through the political and economic landscape influenced power structures that affect the way we deal with global issues. Globalization has increased the demand for worldwide cooperation to meet the challenges of climate change. Globalization has also amplified inequality in the global society as some groups become victims in the new economic regimes. At the Master´s Programme in Global Studies we try to make sense of globalization and understand what forces that drive it - by doing so we can find ways forward and do significant work within global organizations. ### A wide interdisciplinary education The Master’s Programme in Global Studies explores globalization from different thematic, theoretical, and disciplinary perspectives. The programme addresses globalization through a broad range of topics such as ethnicity, cultural diversity, gender, migration, conflict, political economy, security, conflict and sustainable development, with gender and environmental consideration is taken into account throughout all of the courses. The disciplines and perspectives influencing the programme are: - Global Development Studies - Conflict Resolution - Human Ecology - International Relations - Social Anthropology ### A research-focused programme You will develop skills for both post-graduate research and professional employment in areas such as development cooperation, humanitarian assistance, cultural diversity and integration programmes, and environmental planning and analysis. At the programme we maintain a close relationship between research and teaching. Core lectures are based on the department´s ongoing research projects as well as other current research. If you are interested in an academic career, you can choose to do a research internship at our department, contributing to one of our research initiatives. And, if you are interested in the transport sector and how transport affects the Indian population you can apply for a research internship at the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi (IITD) and participate in exchange studies writing your thesis in India. ### After graduation Graduates of the programme receive the degree Master of Science in Global Studies. You will be prepared for further research or professional employment within public organizations, NGOs and INGOs, or the private sector, in areas such as development cooperation, humanitarian assistance, cultural diversity and integration programmes, and environmental planning and analysis.
