Master's Programme in Human Geography

The Master's Programme in Human Geography develops your ability to understand and critically analyse how people, places and environments interact in a changing world. What does global warming mean for societal conditions in different places? How are demographic change and sustainable development interconnected? How is local resource use affected by geopolitical processes? What roles do public spaces play in an increasingly urbanised world? These are examples of the questions explored and critically discussed throughout the programme – questions that are also crucial for how urban and regional planning can address the societal challenges of today and tomorrow. The programme comprises a series of courses on current human geography themes, with links to climate change, economic development, demography and migration, urban processes, and the relationship between place, politics, and identity. Each theme is connected to the practice of planning, which forms a common thread throughout the programme. The education combines theoretical knowledge with training in advanced scientific methods. After graduation, you will be qualified to work as urban and regional planner, analyst, or consultant in both the public and private sectors, or to pursue a career in research. The programme equips you with tools to contribute to a sustainable future – locally and globally. The language of instruction is English.
