Master's Programme in Medical Nuclide Techniques

Medical use of radioactive nuclides is being developed in Sweden and internationally. Tomographic methods such as positron camera (PET) and gamma camera (SPECT), as well as the use of radionuclides for therapy, require special skills. Uppsala University has for a long time been a world leader in the field. The Master's programme in Medical Nuclide Techniques is highly interdisciplinary and brings together leading researchers and clinicians to create a unique and stimulating teaching environment. The programme takes place in close collaboration with current research in the field, and the interdisciplinary nature of the programme is reflected in the content. Courses include biological effects of ionising radiation, strategies for labelling biomarkers, measurement techniques and experimental and clinical use of radioactive nuclides. The latter part of the programme provides an in-depth approach to substance development, and you learn to produce, radiolabel and test various substances that can be used in diagnostics and therapy. The first and second years of the programme conclude with individual research projects. After the programme, you will be well prepared for a future in or out of academia. Our former students work, for example, with university research, at a nuclear medicine clinic or in the pharmaceutical industry. The language of instruction is English.
