Master's Programme in Musicology

This programme equips you with a deep understanding and knowledge of musicology, as well as the analytical skills to study and research music from all cultures and historical periods, including our present day. You will be introduced to a number of scholarly perspectives on music as a phenomenon of sound and as a historical and societal phenomenon. The programme is designed to give you a strong and wide competence in the scholarly study of music and music-related matters in all its forms. As a student will develop a precise and analytic understanding of music. During the programme, courses are offered within the fields of historical musicology, music analysis, ethnomusicology, popular music, music and gender, film music and others. There is also the possibility to do an internship course in a professional field of music life. Previous students have undergone internships in museums, music libraries, music publishing and production studios, for example. The Master’s programme provides you with both a good foundation in musicology as a whole, as well as the possibility to conduct research-oriented specialisation in a specific field of the discipline. Alumni from the programme have pursued studies at doctoral level, careers in music journalism, work in archives, libraries and museums, public service, and careers in different sectors of professional musical life. The language of instruction is English.
