Master's Programme in Sustainable Development

The Master's Programme in Sustainable Development is interdisciplinary, attracting students and teachers from over 20 countries with diverse backgrounds in the social and natural sciences, civil engineering, economics, and law. By the end of the programme, you will have a comprehensive understanding of sustainable development issues from a variety of perspectives, ranging from basic economic considerations to practical solutions such as ensuring an adequate supply of drinking water for everyone on our planet. The programme is offered jointly by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) and Uppsala University, both located in Uppsala. You will learn about the complex problems facing humanity and the planet, as well as the challenges of achieving a sustainable future. Meeting the challenges of the UN Sustainable Development Goals requires global and local action. This includes transforming and restructuring local economies, industries and communities; developing sustainable production and consumption patterns; and adopting sustainable strategies, norms and practices for resource use and environmental protection. Knowledge and skills in sustainable development are in demand in various sectors worldwide. Employers need staff who can address these complex challenges. After graduating, our students find employment in a variety of roles and industries, such as energy and climate advisors, project managers, environmental coordinators, sustainability analysts, environmental communicators, and PhD students. The language of instruction is English.
