Pathway Semester General

Pathway Semester General is designed as a general Pathway Programme for potential international degree seeking students who need to improve skills and proficiency for a following first or second cycle university programme, both within their chosen field and in order to achieve an overall and broad command of specific subjects required for eligibility as well as the English language in everyday and academic use. The students may also familiarize themselves with Scandinavian society, culture and language. In addition, the Pathway Programme provides familiarity with higher education and assists in developing communication in an academic environment. The programme enables the student to gain skills and competencies for either first or second cycle university level education in an intercultural and international environment. It also bridges between secondary education and the qualitative targets of tertiary education. The horizontal aim is to develop and strengthen student skills for participating in higher education, life-long learning and global citizenship through group work, social engagement, peer learning, reflective learning and autonomous learning whilst developing agency, ability to reconcile tensions and dilemmas, intercultural communication skills, metacognitive skills, information literacy and critical thinking. The programme enables the student to participate in academic studies conducted in English in most fields, by improving the student’s proficiency in reading, writing, listening and speaking as well as developing their academic English and helping student navigate Scandinavian teaching methods and university life. It corresponds to one semester of full-time studies, comprising a total of 30 credits. The programme contains mandatory courses for completing the programme, elective courses that may be preselected for the student due to eligibility requirements or prerequisites for admission to a student's follow-up programme, and elective courses available to all students that help develop necessary academic skills.
