Physical Geography: Algorithms and Data Structures in GIS

<p>This course provides the basic mathematical and computer science theory in GIS, which builds on the general theory of GIS. You get the basic theory of storing geographic data in databases and the most important algorithms in a GIS. You will also learn to use GIS as a tool in spatial analysis.</p><p>The aim of this course is to give the underlying mathematical and computer science theory required in GIS. This knowledge is necessary to evaluate the results in an analysis and to carry out more advanced analyses where the tools not are available in a standard GIS program. The lectures treat the basic theory to store geographic data in databases and the most important algorithms in a GIS . Exercises are mainly directed towards to treat geographic databases and to program algorithms. You will develop skills in programming basic algorithms that are used in geographic information processing, structure and solve geometric problems, and communicate with a database designed for geographic data.</p> <p>Course design</p> <p>The teaching consists of lectures, laboratory sessions and project work</p> <p> </p>
