Psychology: Personality- and Development Psychology

<p>Are you curious about human development and personality? Do you want to know what makes people who they are and how we change throughout our lives? That is the focus of this course.</p><h3>Course content</h3> <p>Personality and developmental psychology is the field of psychology that both describes and explains how people change and develop in certain ways in life and at the same time how they remain constant in their characteristics to some extent: The four modules of the course have the following themes:</p> <ol> <li>Infants and children</li> <li>Teenagers and young adults</li> <li>Personality</li> <li>Adults and the elderly</li> </ol> <h3><br /> During the course you will gain insight into:</h3> <ul> <li>How people develop motorically, cognitively, emotionally, and socially from birth to old age.</li> <li>How both individuals’ environment and heredity have an impact on their development and personality.</li> <li>How personality can explain why people are different in their thoughts, feelings, and behaviour.</li> </ul> <p>Practical course elements will help you understand and apply the theories of the course and reflect on the knowledge areas through written assignments. Practical elements also provide an understanding of research methods for studying different factors in personality and developmental psychology.<br />  </p> <h3>Course structure</h3> <p>Teaching consists of lectures, group exercises, seminars, small group projects and written assignments.</p> <p>The course is given in English during the autumn semester and in Swedish during the spring semester.</p> <h3>After the course</h3> <p>After completing the course, you will have gained knowledge about human development and personality and be aware of how this knowledge is important for how society designs school, workplaces, and care to suit people with different needs and characteristics. This is important knowledge if you want to work with societal issues, people, or just want a scientific perspective on human development and personality.</p>
