Översikt
Public economics is the study of the role of government in the economy. Modern governments collect up to 50% of national income in taxes. These taxes are used to finance public expenditures, such as health care and education, and to redistribute income. In this course we highlight, on the one hand, the role of government in supporting the provision of public and private goods and correcting market failures, and on the other hand, the discouraging effects of government intervention on economic activity. The scope ranges from basic theory to issues on the political agenda in Sweden and elsewhere.
