Second Language Acquisition in Theory and in Practice

Have you ever wondered about the process of learning a new language? Why is it easier to learn some things while others take more practice and guidance? This course gives you the answers to these questions and more by exploring learning pronounciation, grammar and vocabulary. We focus mainly on learning the Swedish language but we also cover other languages such as English. During the course you will actively work with practical assignments like analysis of learners linguistic production and assessment of the factors that explain differences between learner comprehension levels. Further, you will get the chance to observe a lesson in Swedish as a second language to discuss the didactic methods that are used. This is a joint course with Swedish as a Second Language A. **Outline for distance course:** The course is a distance course and is carried out in a learning platform. Access to internet connected computer and headset is necessary. The course is based on self-study and communication in the web-based teaching environment and is aimed at those who feel comfortable with digital teaching formats. Learning, knowledge control and supervision takes place via the internet and online meetings are scheduled for the evening. You work both individually and in groups. Keep in mind that a distance learning course requires just as much work as a regular campus course. You are expected to have the ability to plan and manage your own study time.
