Social Innovation in a Digital Context

The course explores complex global societal challenges through social innovation, with an emphasis on digital transformation and the UN 2030 Agenda. Students critically examine the link between digital technologies and social innovation and their potential to enable or constrain changes. In addition, the course explores how social innovation initiatives can contribute to to solving global challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, and education. The course also covers theories of social norms and their impact on transformation processes, with the aim of challenging existing norms. An interdisciplinary approach is used to combine insights from technology, civil society and governance in the development of innovative solutions. The course highlights how social innovators engage in addressing some of the world's most pressing and complex challenges through creative and sustainable solutions.
