Sociology of Culture

Since its first beginnings, sociology has taken an interest in culture. This has yielded a plethora of approaches to how culture can be conceptualized and how it can be understood, to how it can be explained and what it can explain, and how it can be studied. This course aims to introduce central ideas in the sociology of culture. Its main focus is upon the intersection of anthropology and sociology of culture, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, upon the sociological analysis of art and taste. In the course, you get to study different approaches to the sociological analysis of culture, relate them to one another, and discuss the structure, methods and conclusions of example studies.
