Structure and Dynamics of Biomolecules

<p>The course provides advanced knowledge about the methods used for determining the structures and dynamical properties of biomolecules (X-ray diffraction of protein crystals, spinresonance and vibrational spectroscopy and electron microscopy). The course focuses on the experimental methods and explains which biological problems can be studied with the different techniques. The students independently will be able to judge how reliable these results are and which other methods can give necessary complementary information. In addition the course deals with the theory and basic mathematical concepts (Fouriertransformaton) behind analysis of spectroscopic and X-ray scattering methods in biology and biochemistry. In relevant context protein structure based design of drugs are also discussed.</p>
