Supplemental studies for extended qualifications in mathematics for grades 7-9, I

Welcome to our course package for teachers who wish to become qualified in mathematics for grades 7-9. The course package is designed to provide you with the skills and competencies required to teach mathematics at the middle school level. Course Package Structure The courses are offered part-time and remotely, allowing you to combine studies with work or other commitments. The studies consist of three course packages totaling 45 university credits. You will take one course package per semester (15 credits), and each course package consists of two sub-courses. Some of the sub-courses are shared with students from other programs. The courses provide a broad and deep understanding of mathematics and its didactics. Since the program is aimed at grades 7-9, you should not expect all courses to count towards qualification for high school teaching. Distance Learning with In-Person Meetings The teaching is mainly conducted online, giving you the flexibility to study from any location. The introduction to the first course includes a mandatory in-person meeting where you will have the opportunity to meet your teachers and fellow students. After that, in-person meetings will be held at examination sessions. Other components are conducted online through lectures, seminars, and discussions, depending on the structure of each sub-course. Important Information About Study Load and Prerequisites To succeed, you are expected to dedicate approximately 20 hours per week to your studies. This includes time for participating in online lectures, seminars, and discussions, as well as reading course literature, completing exercises, and preparing assignments. This time commitment is necessary to keep up with the course content and achieve the required learning objectives. The mathematical content will gradually increase in complexity, which means that solid foundational knowledge in mathematics is necessary to succeed in the later courses of the program. It is especially important to spend time strengthening and reviewing algebraic skills. Here are some key areas you will encounter in the program: Algebra: Handling algebraic expressions, equations, and inequalities. Functions: Basic knowledge of different types of functions and their properties. Geometry: Fundamental concepts and theorems. Arithmetic and Number Theory: Understanding the properties of numbers and divisibility. If you feel that your knowledge in these areas needs improvement, we strongly recommend that you work on strengthening these skills before the program begins. This will allow you to absorb the content more effectively. You may also participate in a preparatory mathematics course if needed, such as 1MA021 and 1MA022. By investing time and energy in preparing well, you will be in the best position to succeed in your studies. A formal application for qualification is made to the Swedish National Agency for Education (Skolverket).
