Textile Production and Innovation

The textile industry is facing significant demands, which require transformation and adaption to modern challenges. For that, innovative developers and leaders who can think differently are required. You and your ideas can transform the textile industry into a sustainable and circular industry. The Textile Production and Innovation program gives you the tools and mindset, but it is you who takes the step and drives future progress for a sustainable textile industry. The program is designed to meet the current and future needs of the textile industry, where technical textiles, a digital transformation of the industry, compliance with regulations and laws for textile products, and innovations in materials, products, and processes are key areas to enable a more localized and flexible textile production. On top of that you will work in an international environment. Textile Production and Innovation suits those with a technical interest and prepares you to work with innovative products and processes, as well as sustainability aspects within the textile industry. The program comprises three years of full-time studies equivalent to 180 ECTS, with a strong focus of the main area of Textile Technology throughout all three years of study. This means that basic textile courses in fiber and yarn technology, knitting, weaving and nonwoven technology, dyeing and finishing, as well as product manufacturing form the foundation of the broad textile competence that the program builds upon. These foundational courses with a strong practical approach make your education unique, not only in Sweden but across Europe. You will gain an understanding of textile processes that few other newly graduated students can demonstrate. Throughout the program, you will encounter many practical courses where theory and practice combine to give you, as a student, an understanding of the subject and help you achieve the program's goals. Additionally, theoretical and practical knowledge is applied in project courses, where you are trained to integrate all elements necessary for a specific product to go into production. The products and processes around them are then evaluated and analyzed from various sustainability aspects. The program offers flexibility for students, as you can choose between two specializations with elective courses in textile innovation during the third year. The specializations are Material Innovation or Product Innovation. The Material Innovation specialization aims to provide you with more in-depth knowledge at the fiber level and recycling, textile functionalization, and smart textiles. The Product Innovation specialization allows you to deepen your knowledge in the development and construction of innovative and technical products. The final course in the program is the degree project, an independent work (thesis) comprising 15 ECTS. The problem formulation is based in industry-related challenges or research, and the implementation and examination follow academic standards for methodology and report writing. In this way, you will gain an understanding of the industry's needs and what you, as a graduate student can contribute with.
