<p><strong>Interested in taking your teaching beyond the classroom walls? </strong><br>This course is built on the Scandinavian tradition of <i>uteskola</i> – “outdoor school” – where the syllabus is regularly taught outdoors in close connection with indoor learning.</p><p>You will broaden your professional expertise as a teacher by learning how to use a variety of outdoor environments for teaching and learning. The course combines both theoretical perspectives and hands-on practice, and explores how different school subjects can be taught outside – in both natural and urban settings.</p><p><strong>Outdoor learning for all ages</strong><br>We explore a wide range of outdoor learning environments, including cities, nature reserves, school grounds and playgrounds. Examples are drawn from across the educational system, from pre-school to secondary school. You will also have opportunities to focus on your own areas of interest and teaching practice.</p><p><strong>Theory meets practice – in the field</strong><br>Throughout the course, we examine the theoretical and practical traditions that have shaped the field of outdoor education, with a strong focus on the Scandinavian concept of <i>uteskola</i>. The emphasis is on active participation, outdoor experiences, and reflective practice – both oral and written.</p><p>Much of the course takes place in the field, where different outdoor settings serve as real-world arenas for teaching and learning. You’ll gain valuable experience in planning and leading outdoor lessons, building the confidence to make outdoor education a natural and effective part of your teaching toolkit.</p>
A teaching qualification of at least 180 ECTS credits, including an in-depth academic paper of 15 ECTS credit or Bachelor´s degree in didactics equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, including an in-depth academic paper of 15 ECTS credit and at least 60 ECTS credits in a subject area of importance for environmental and outdoor education English corresponding to the level of English in Swedish upper secondary education (Engelska 6 or Engelska nivå 2) (Exemption from Swedish)
